Welcome to the home of the Spurgeon Boys!
Thank you for visiting.
The Spurgeon Boys are a local group that performs mainly bluegrass, country, folk, and old-time music.
We play in and around the Maryville, Tennessee area and can be heard at some of the local jam sessions like Rocky Branch Community Center and the Cades Cove Old-Timers day.
We had a great time playing for Tari at her daughter's wedding! We hope and pray for their marriage to be wonderful!
Looking forward to playing for wedding for Tari Conway.
Well another year has come and gone! They seem to fly by these days. It seems like everyone is so busy and it is hard to slow things down. I would have to say that Spurgeon Boys had a great year. We got the chance to play some really nice venues, won fourth place in the Loudon County band competition, and met a lot of great musicians along the way.
We lost a good friend and bluegrass advocate, Jerry Kincannon, this year. He will be sorely missed. All those who frequent Rocky Branch community center know just how much he cared about the music and the musicians. We hope that his legacy will continue on in the music and the lives that he touched.
We are looking forward to the coming year and the many plans we have in the works. We are going to try and catch up to the digital age with a new album to be available on itunes, as well as some video offerings on youtube. Most of all we are happy to welcome our good friend, Stanley Swartzel, to our full-time line up. Check out his story on our Bio page and look forward to some amazing music from the worlds greatest washtub bass player!
Besides all of this, we are also involved in many side projects with the Woodpickers, Eric Spurgeon, The Eric Taylor Band, electronic music, and film school, so it is easy to see why everything seems to be flying by! So, check out our links page for links to some of our other endeavers.
We would like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2012, and we hope that you have a chance to slow things down and enjoy some good music now and then.
Well we are busy as usual! We have been playing around town at a few places here and there. We have many more activities lining up this season as well. We are in the preproduction stage of our very first music video for our song Piney Grove. We have most of the story board completed and most of the locations picked out for out shoot. Stay tuned for that and a couple of other important updates in the near future!
Hey there! We sure have been busy this year! We have some new events scheduled on our calender that you may want to check out. Jeremy has a new portable digital recorder that he has been using to record some shows, so look forward to some podcasts on the music page soon. We also have a mobile version of the site now that you can access by clicking the "mobile site" link at the top of this page, and we have a new facebook site as well.
The Spurgeon Boys would also like to congradulate our buddy, Matthew Taylor, on his win at this year's Young Pickers Contest, held at the Townsend Spring Festival. He won the Grand Prize in flat-picking! Way to go Matt! Check out his video below.
As always, we are very busy and playing quite a bit. We hope that you all are having a great year as well and hope to see you all at one of our shows real soon!
